I use Adobe InDesign for my poster presentations. This is a template I use and includes a background, style sheet for all your text types (titles, headers, normal text) and examples of all the boxes for figures, tables and legends. It is quite a big download (1.7Mb).
If you don't like the fonts and the colours (!), you can customise them in the main style settings.
